Zesty Horseradish Tartar Sauce

A creamy, tangy tartar sauce with some zip from the mustard, and nice pops of briny pickle/caper flavor accented with a hint of lemon.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup Miracle Whip
  • 1 tbsp Finely chopped dill pickles or 2 tsp dill relish
  • 2 tsp Capers drained and chopped
  • 2 tsp Lemon juice go easy, Miracle Whip is already tangy
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1½ to 2 tsp Prepared horseradish adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp Minced red onion or shallot
  • ½ tbsp Fresh parsley or dill finely chopped (optional)
  • Dash of hot sauce or a small pinch of cayenne optional but recommended
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Tiny pinch of salt only if needed

Method
 

  1. Stir together the Miracle Whip, pickles, capers, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard.
  2. Mix in horseradish and red onion.
  3. Add herbs, hot sauce/cayenne, and pepper.
  4. Taste and adjust—Miracle Whip is tangy and sweet, so you likely won’t need much extra salt or lemon juice.
  5. Chill for 10–15 minutes before serving for best flavor.
